The Week Before…

Moisturise!

In the week leading up to your photos, I suggest putting a lip balm on everyone in the family before bed. This will ensure no one has dry & cracked lips for the session. This is most important during cold weather & windy Spring.
I can edit minor things like the odd pimple & do some teeth whitening but to fix a cracked smile would require photoshop A.I smooth your lips! :/
Another suggestion, mostly for the Mums, is to moisturise your hands & elbows for a week beforehand.
A week of TLC will make you feel great as well as look great in all the photos.

Pick Your Outfits

There’s nothing worse than imagining your daughter in that beautiful dress you’ve kept in the back of her cupboard for a special occasion doesn’t fit anymore!
Make sure you allow a week or two before your session to get everyone’s outfits sorted. That way, if you need to place an online order it has plenty of time to arrive.
If you have a baby or toddler, I suggest bringing a backup outfit to bring along just in case.

No Transition Glasses!

These are the reading glasses that Transition into tinted reading glasses when outside.
Please do not wear these on the day. They cover up your eyes & just doesn’t look nice in the portraits. Normal reading glasses are fine to wear, just not the Transition Glasses, thanks!

The Day Of…

Have a Relaxing Day!

Since Portrait Sessions are held late in the afternoon to get the best sunlight (aka Golden Hour). It is best to have an easy day, like a Movie Day at home especially if your children no longer have naps.

Food!

Most children (& adults) cooperate more when they aren’t Hungry or Hangry! Make sure everyone has had a good amount to eat & drink throughout the day.
Be sure to pack some snacks hidden in your handbag in case we have any breaks.
You can also try to bribe the children with Maccas for dinner afterwards for good behaviour!

Keep it Positive!

Be sure to tell your children that they’re having some fun family photos taken this afternoon with lots of smiles, cuddles, kisses, tickles, games & singing songs. Where they might even be able to tickle Mum & Dad!!
If you have a child who is really shy & doesn’t like strangers – it might help for them to see who I am (see About Me page) & to see what I do (see Family Portraits). If they’re still not sure & feeling uneasy, I am happy to do a zoom call or meet up with your family beforehand.

Don’t Stress!!!

I know there can be a lot of things to consider in the lead up to your Portrait Session but just try to remember why you are getting these photos done… To capture this beautiful moment in your lives! Children just grow up way too quickly & we want this to be a fun photo shoot to capture the love & mischievousness of your family. The most beautiful photos aren’t the posed ones. It’s the fun ones of you interacting with your family.
Also… know that the camera can’t tell the difference between a fake laugh & a real laugh. Even a blatant fake laugh can get other people laughing. So laugh often!
